Overview

The Inventory Control Specialist 1 manufacturing I reports to the Manager II, Manufacturing and leads a shift of team members at Bay Center Foods in Valencia, California.  The role has responsibility for leading and executing inventory counts, asset protection and inventory control. They also manage physical and systemic processes, reverse logisticsensure inventory controls, and maintain accurate inventory counts. This position will also complete tasks and objectives related to manufacturing, distribution, shipping, receiving, inventory and by-products and will address concerns as they arise.

 

The Inventory Control Specialist 1 will also act as a back up to coordinate work assignments, establish schedules, set priorities and conduct regular reviews of work in progress.  The Inventory Control Specialist 1 will conduct problem solving, suggest and collaborate on procedural changes and implementation.  The role will orient, train, assign, coordinate and check the work of the team to ensure successful execution and delivery to standards.  The individual will exercise a continuous improvement mindset and make recommendations for refined solutions with an in-depth understanding of current procedures, process, tools, equipment and techniques.  The role may initiate and communicate a variety of actions related to the direct management of their team. 

 

The Inventory Control Specialist 1 will be responsible to ensure compliance to safety and food safety policies and procedures.  The role will collaborate internally with other team members in Business Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Environment Health & Safety, Talent, Maintenance and Automation.  The primary external contacts will include security, freight carriers, material vendors, contractors, equipment providers and service personnel. This position requires the flexibility to work extended hours, holidays, and weekends as needed.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position is $50.48 to $55.29. This pay scale takes into account a wide range of business factors and may change over time.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all OSHA and internal safety policies within span of control are trained on and adhered to 
  • Ensures all Food Safety policies within span of control are trained on and adhered to
  • Performs safety inspections. Instructs on accident prevention techniques and assists in accident investigations.
  • Develops/teaches company inventory control programs and initiatives.
  • Leads, executes, and investigates results from inventory count program.
  • Performs inventory counts.
  • Manages, inventory control functions. Oversees count teams, programs. Implements best practices and programs focused on operational shrink deterrence.
  • Oversees RTV process and ensures the accuracy of damage and return to vendor and transfers. Validates that all merchandise leaving the back doors has been processed per company guidelines.
  • Develops effective and productive processes in the asset protection and /inventory control departments through selection, training, managing, assessment, evaluating performance, coaching, motivating and performance management when necessary.
  • Complete weekly review of the club shrink report, monthly annotation on the shrink (over $500) report and investigate/resolve variances accordingly.
  • Planning and execution of cycle inventory preparation process.
  • Manage, review, and resolve losses identified through exception-based reporting
  • Completing necessary adjustments/transactions to maintain accurate inventory records
  • Lead inventory accuracy improvement projects
  • Define and implement processes relating to inventory control
  • Scheduling and leading meetings to update Production Control & Finance team on performance
  • Responsible for end-of-month reporting by balancing negative inventory balances to zero by transfers, inventory adjustment
  • Manage and/or complete tasks and objectives related to shipping, receiving, inventory, by-products, supervisor support.
  • Perform start up and shut down inventory preparation and closeout tasks as needed.
  • Serve as a communications conduit between Sr. Leadership and team members; effectively and timely communicate information and updates on a regular basis
  • Inventory management & reconciliation for finished goods and raw materials
  • Collaborates with leaders to determine work assignments, schedules of team members to meet shipping, receiving and manufacturing schedules
  • Recommend potential operational improvements, and drive innovation in the operations
  • Ensure timely completion of systems transactions
  • First-hand knowledge in the safe operation of all equipment or machinery in the distribution area, and the ability to train or fill in for direct reports as required
  • Maintains clean, well-organized and efficient workspaces
  • Assist with reporting on and continuously improving KPIs
  • Participate in cross training with Extraction and Packaging Supervisors
  • Understand and utilize systems such as OpenDock, MES, ignition, Vorne, Scada, and others
  • Hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly report outs of department performance
  • Participate in Growing Excellence activities and duties 
  • Provide temporary project support as needed for innovation, research & development (R&D), and pilot projects'
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned by Manager II, Manufacturing

  • Remain prepared for a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and rotating shifts
  • Wear all appropriate personal protective equipment as required for the task being performed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, college diploma or relevant professional experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with Oracle, GE Plant Applications, OpenDock, other ERP/Warehouse systems
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement tools
  • Experience operating in a highly automated environment including ASRS, AGVs, etc.
  • Certified forklift trainer
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
